After the euphoria of two World Cups the imperatives for doing something are now much greater. Electricity shortages are a continuous threat, new building developments receive capped quotas, and water heating costs have escalated beyond belief.
How much does it cost?
Kwikot says that to heat 150 litres of water from 15 to 65 degC uses 8.72kWh. At R0.80 per kWh it will cost R6-98 per tank per day or cost R2 546-24 for the year. With the Tariff escalating 25% next year, and projected to increase 10% for the next 3years and 6% thereafter, the cost of doing nothing is:
